Essential skills include a comprehensive understanding of the design and construction lifecycle, innovative thinking, strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in technical tools like drafting software and Excel.

Engineers can advance into technical leadership, project management, or team leadership roles in consultancies. Roles in contracting firms or client-side project management are also viable. Achieving chartered status with bodies like CIBSE significantly boosts career prospects.

Once you are fully qualified, you could apply for chartered status at the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) or another construction engineering institution licensed by the Engineering Council. This would improve your job prospects and help you progress in your career. You could also apply for NER (National Engineering Register) or other discipline specific accreditations such as FPAS, C10, C14 and Class 2.
